Making your own toothpaste at home is easier than you might think, and it's a wonderful way to know exactly what goes into your family's oral care routine. This simple recipe is perfect for anyone looking to avoid fluoride whilst still maintaining a natural, effective clean. It's suitable for the whole family once children reach three years of age.

Ingredients

  • Half cup bentonite clay
  • Quarter cup organic coconut oil
  • 5 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 teaspoons Celtic salt
  • Approximately half cup filtered water
  • Essential oils of your choice (peppermint, tea tree, clove, cinnamon, or a blend)

Method

  1. Combine the bentonite clay, bicarbonate of soda, and Celtic salt in a clean bowl.
  2. Add the organic melted coconut oil and mix well until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. Slowly add the filtered water, a little at a time, stirring continuously until you reach your desired consistency. You may not need all of the water, so add gradually and adjust as needed.
  4. Once you've achieved the right texture, add your chosen essential oils. Peppermint is a classic choice for a fresh, minty flavour, but tea tree, clove, and cinnamon all work beautifully too. Feel free to experiment with combinations to find what works best for your family.
  5. Transfer your finished toothpaste to a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  6. Store in a cool, dry place and use as you would any regular toothpaste.

This homemade toothpaste is a natural, simple solution that lets you take control of your family's dental care routine.
